Kamal Haasan

Biography

Instead of doing a formal training in acting, Kamal Haasan chose to work as the assistant director of well-known South Indian director K Balachander. While with him, he learnt direction, editing and also dancing from dance master Tagappan. This seems to have helped Kamal Haasan a lot and that's the reason he comes out so good in everything he does. Kamal Haasan tried his luck in Hindi movies with 'Ek Duje Ke Liye' opposite newcomer Rati Agnihotri. This film went on to capture the hearts and minds of many people especially young lovers who thought the film quite similar to their lives. Though some more of his movies like 'Sadma' with Sridevi, 'Giraftar', 'Sanam Teri Kasam', 'Saagar' with Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor were highly appreciated, it could not do much to his image in Bollywood. He had to content himself doing South Indian movies. But Kamal Haasan did not give up and surprised everyone of his Hindi speaking audiences with occasional movies like 'Nayakan' and 'Appu Raja'. He is one actor who comes from that school of thought where the idea of experimentation is taught. This is the reason why during the era of songs and dances, he came out with a silent movie called 'Pushpak' which was lapped up by the audiences. He is someone who does not mind spending crores for his movies. This was evident from his multi-crore film 'Hindustani' where there were lots spent on make up and costumes. The entire movie was shot in lavish places like Australia. According to Kamal Haasan himself, the key to his success lies in his ability to try out different voices by modulating his voice. He can be as squeaky as in 'Rasleela' or as harsh and biting as in 'Apoorva Sahodarargal'. This is the reason he could convince everyone in a role like 'Chachi 420' where he required to have a soft voice. It's great to watch an actor like Kamal Haasan who have the capacity of enthralling the audiences with his varied roles and pictures.
